"De-regulation at the federal level"

It's barely 100 days in to the new administration, and the collapse of the federal government is moving along surprisingly quickly.

From this article in the the Seattle Times comes this piece, "At this budget meeting, the crackup of America was right at the surface." The title is a bit confusing - it's in reference to a federal funding update for King County (the big county in Washington state that includes Seattle and all of the big Washington tech companies).

What really caught my eye was this point toward the end of the article:

But Dively raised a third issue. It’s that King County, and possibly other local bodies, might have to decouple from the federal government and its rampaging administrator. [...] The county may have to push for “de-regulation at the federal level” — for the rolling back of federal rules and protections, even those that King County officials might support, he said. The reason is that you can’t be frozen forever waiting for permits from dysfunctional or politically hostile agencies.

We are only about 7.4% of the way through the current administration. And this report is before the tariffs, DOGE, the new budget... and the projections for the 2028 Senate are still 47 (D) / 53 (R).
