One premise underlying The Defederalized Democrat is that the tensions between the current administration and the states will continue to escalate.

One of the key demarcation lines for this turning very... ugly... would be the arrest of a state governor by the Trump administration. We've already seen the arrest of judges, as well as threats against the Supreme Court.

Today the governor of Wisconsin posted this:

The threats from the current administration were triggered by Evers providing guidance to WI state staff on how to handle ICE. When a federal agencies seize citizens and sends them to another country without any form of due process... that's indistinguishable from kidnapping.

At some point in the near future I imagine one or more governors will be more or less forced to issue guidance that ICE is not to be allowed to operate in the state due to this kind of activity. If this continues, at some point a state governor will be forced to take action to protect their own personal safety and freedom from arrest. A confrontation between ICE and state security could get very... complicated.

Talk about interesting times.
